- KT LwinI can only recall from personal experience, three days after Yangon was reoccupied, our three Fairmile gunboats ML 391,436 and 437 of 59th. Burma RNVR flotilla were sent out on patrol north of Insein and Tantabin to Kokowa situated on the river route to Yandon to block the Japanese Army units from Henzada trying to escape eastwards to Pegu Yomas. We had very close collaboration from BDA guerilla fighters who kept us fully informed of the Japanese craft movements, and we were able to surprise the three Japanese armed landing crafts full of troops and sank them during a hotly fought night action. It was a typical example of collaboration between our British trained Myanmar Navy and the Japanese trained Tatmadaw units in the Delta before the war ended. I would say everyone who participated then contributed towards the fight for our freedom, by the role they actually played.
